Intro (WIP)

My grandparents are dying. What treasures, not just stories from my own family and about people I know and that's life but what universal things do they harbor that I won't have the opportunity to document! What lenses, what windows, into the past they are, they have! If we can get this dying literally, breed of people to all share their experiences we can piece together a clear picture of the day in the life in all its nuances of how it was to exist in the past, like an endangered species that might have the cure to a disease, like 1000 radio telescopes around the globe looking at a distant gravity wave or quasar to see its full reality, so can we piece together all the views / vantage points from the distant lands of wisdom.
All the lenses of wisdom we have left to understand
The lenses experiences to understand in life at the lenses of lifelong experiences of relating to parables to understand the wisdom the meaning of the wisdom we really all have

Maybe a secret to a different and better way of life is in there
Maybe the cure to our cultural diseases is in there
And if we don't capture record it's going to die
Like the way of life in ancient Greece
It's going to die and we are going to just have to speculate like the way of life in ancient Greece (Spirits speaking through people) or in play the Native Americans or hunter gatherer tribes
Or ancient China
<>Even as China commits...
Even as China commits cultural genocide (e.g. uyghurs) or the Rwandans commit genocide and are condemned, so do we accidentally commit tremendous cultural genocide with our modernization of Africa and distant economies. That too is a great evil done

We're a group of mid-20s to mid-30s adults who work in a range of professions, from data engineering to founders to design to marketing. Our hobbies are even wider-ranging - we have jazz aficionados, survival enthusiasts, science illustration nerds, wrestling queens, bread bakers, runners, bikers, plant lovers, skilled cooks, roller skaters, and many more. From deep conversations to cuddling around the fire, we generally try to make space to connect and really get to know each other.
How we spend our time

🏃‍♀️ Staying Active: Some of us go run together multiple times per week, do fitness videos together, or yoga in the garden. And we wrestle!

🏕 Outdoors: Camping (& survival!) trips, hikes, candle-light cuddle puddles in the park, and lots of ocean & beach time

👩‍🍳 Cooking. Most evenings you'll see housemates in the kitchen cooking together, and it's a major bonding and decompression time for the house.

🎭 Creativity and elaborate weekend productions. Just last weekend we put on an immersive theater birthday party for a housemate and it was an absolute blast.

🎵 Music! We do uke & guitar jam sessions (you gotta learn Riptide), play the piano, and dance in the living room

🧘‍♀️ Mindfulness. We have a few regular meditators in the house and we generally try to stay present and embrace NVC!

🎉 Party (: Most birthdays and major events lead to big fun parties, usually themed. We're looking forward to inviting some other group houses and the larger community to some backyard events when we're post-covid as well.

🧊 Chill. Many evenings we just hang out and read together, too :).
Who we're looking for
We're looking to live with supportive, invested, and respectful community members.  We don't care about what you do or how you do it, but we are looking for someone who actively contributes to the community in their own unique way, keeps shared spaces neat, practices good communication, and is as stoked to hang out with us as we are with you! We love makers, creativity, easy-going-ness, and a willingness to do. If you're enthusiastic, kind, and love to be around humans who are the same, this is the place for you! (:

10. A reef taller than the Empire State Building
A team of Australian scientists on board the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s research vessel Falkor was mapping the northern Great Barrier Reef seafloor when they stumbled on a towering skyscraper of coral more than 1,640 feet tall—the first of its kind discovered in more than 120 years. Known as a detached reef, the newfound coral tower is one of eight now known in the region. These natural structures provide vital habitats for creatures like turtles and sharks, which flit in and out of the deep waters adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef. The team mapped the detached reef, finding a variety of lifeforms thriving in the ecosystem. They collected samples of rock, sediments, and some organisms that will be sent to labs for analysis.

Foster, who describes himself as open-minded about Atkins, says he’d nonetheless worry if people saw the diet as a green light to eat all the butter and bacon — saturated fats — they want. Just before rumors surfaced that Robert Atkins had heart and weight problems when he died, Atkins officials themselves were stressing saturated fat should account for no more than 20 percent of dieters’ calories. This seems to be a clear retreat from the diet’s original don’t-count-the-calories approach to bacon and butter and its happy exhortations to “plow into those prime ribs.” Furthermore, 20 percent of calories from saturated fats is double what most nutritionists advise. Before plowing into those prime ribs, readers of a recent edition of the Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution are urged to take omega-3 pills to help protect their hearts. “If you watch carefully,” says Holub wryly, “you’ll see many popular U.S. diets have quietly added omega-3 pills, in the form of fish oil or flaxseed capsules, as supplements.”

Indeed, among the good reasons for native people to maintain their old way of eating, as far as it’s possible today, is that it provides a hedge against obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Unfortunately, no place on Earth is immune to the spreading taint of growth and development. The very well-being of the northern food chain is coming under threat from global warming, land development, and industrial pollutants in the marine environment. “I’m a pragmatist,” says Cochran, whose organization is involved in pollution monitoring and disseminating food-safety information to native villages. “Global warming we don’t have control over. But we can, for example, do cleanups of military sites in Alaska or of communication cables leaching lead into fish-spawning areas. We can help communities make informed food choices. A young woman of childbearing age may choose not to eat certain organ meats that concentrate contaminants. As individuals, we do have options. And eating our salmon and our seal is still a heck of a better option than pulling something processed that’s full of additives off a store shelf.”

It's clear we can chemically alter our desires. Is this the right thing to do if so? Is this a shortcut to Nirvana? Like decreasing sex drive? I wonder if it's possible to change people’s sexual orientation as well so you want something totally different
