“I have a friend working on a fascinating robotics project and you came to mind. He’s a very clever guy and a world-class martial artist / Chinese-medicine-style physical therapist with a bit of computer engineering background from the 80’s.
He’s breaking into the field of robotics largely through self teaching and looking for some pretty basic guidance . Would you be the guy to answer some of his questions? And/or do you happen to know anyone that might be interested in mentoring him more generally on this project?
His project is the culmination of many years work trying to build a new type of smart exercise machine that can give a human pushing or pulling on it a very specific type of feedback, mimicking what expert physical therapists (and, incidentally, martial artists) in the Asian traditions perform manually
Anything would be helpful, from selecting the right force sensors to guidance on how to build physical mechanisms to the best modern practices for programming this system
(More generally, if you happen to know anyone who is interested in in martial arts, or the healing side of martial arts like Tai Chi/qigong , and is also a roboticist, I think it could be a really interesting to connect them more generally as well)”
